Prometheus Review

Prometheus Review

Initially when I got the Prometheus DVD there was a question floating out in the air: "is Prometheus an Alien prequel? If not what was the movie Prometheus about?" no doubt there was a connection between Prometheus and the Alien movies. That is why I expected certain aspects to appear in Prometheus which I liked from the Alien movies. What I didn't realize was that Prometheus was constructed and portrayed in a completely different matter. I’m not saying that as a bad thing but it was a lot more ... different than I expected.

The idea of the main plot was clear but its execution and the events that followed, just scattered into many confusing directions. Before watching Prometheus I expected it to answer the key question of the Alien franchise. I got my answer but now I have a lot more questions. Maybe it’s only me but there were a lot of confusing events in the story.

Prometheus Problems

David

His agenda was revealed to us towards the end of the movie but the reason he poisoned Holloway still was unclear to me. If it was creator / creation complex, than it was too harsh, simple and pointless. And where exactly did David learn to speak “Engineer”?

The Engineers

In the first scene we see that one of the engineers kills himself … OK. I thought that I will get an answer why did he do that but I didn't (or maybe I missed it). After David wakes the last Engineer he goes apshit crazy, again it was not clear why.

What happened to Fifield

What happened to Fifield after his face burned from the toxic slime? And what happened to the other guy that was with him on the Alien ship? Why didn't he go psycho like Fifield? What I’m trying to say is that there were too many question marks and too few answers. Stuff like that tends to ruin movies for me, especially when I initially thought that the purpose of Prometheus was to answer questions not to create new ones. I imagined that Prometheus was supposed to be the final chapter at the Alien franchise but from what I concluded from the end of the movie, it looks like it is only the beginning of a new series of movies.

Evolution of the Alien

Even the evolution process of the alien we saw on the screen was mostly boring. Let’s see if I got it right. David poisons Holloway who impregnates Elizabeth Shaw. Elizabeth gives birth to some weird ass octopus thingy (she doesn't exactly give birth to it; she cuts her belly open and pulls the dam thing out). The octopus creature overpowers the Engineer plants a snake into the Engineer and wallah the Alien is born.

 Prometheus Summary

Over all in this Prometheus review, I can’t really say if Prometheus is really a cool movie or not. I expected it to be greater and a lot better than what it really was. What we got was a very confusing film. So yea I was disappointed from Prometheus. If you look on paper at the director Ridley Scott (has a list of awesome movies) and the list of actors : Noomi Rapace (didn't recognize her at the beginning but she did a decent job), Michael Fassbender  (was great like always), Charlize Theron (she is mighty hot but I never liked her personally  people say that she is a good actress), Guy Pearce (I didn't recognize him in the movie, only after the film ended I remembered that he was supposed to appear here. After I checked on IMDB I understood who he was) My disappointment grew even more.

  1. Good review. There were plenty of moments that shook me to the core, but then there were plenty of other times where it felt like the film could have done so much more and just ended up being a mildly entertaining sci-fi flick. Maybe I went in expecting something along the lines of Alien and got something not that up to par.
