Looper Review

I thought about watching Looper a while back, I think it was running at the theaters at the time but somehow I didn't manage to find the time for it and pretty much forgot all about it. A friend of mine recommended me to watch Looper a couple of weeks ago. Finally I managed to get Looper DVD, found the time to check it out and write this Looper movie review.

The main character (Joe) is played by two actors. The younger version is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the older version is played by Bruce Willis. Joe (the younger version) is a junky killer (as Joe’s older version described himself in the past) that lives the good life by killing dudes that are sent to the past (the younger Joe's present) by the mob to be executed. You ask yourselves why the criminals from the future need to get rid of loose ends in the past. Because it’s hard to get rid of Bodies in the future - I can accept that.

When Joe's younger version forced to face the fact that he needs to kill his older version that was sent back in time from the future to be executed all hell breaks loose. Joe's older version manages to escape death and from this point it got fascinating to see how the same character has two completely different points of view. The old Joe tries to take out the man who was responsible to the death of his wife and who sentenced him to death (which is a small kid at this present time). While the young Joe tries to restore things back as it used to be (and eventually protect that same kid).

The movie was very intense from the get go but after the young Joe reached the farm it got less intense and more ... let’s call it emotional. Like all time travel movies Looper portrayed the constant time travel paradox, that makes you think of all the different possibilities out there in your mind and eventually get a headache.

Initially when I saw that Bruce Willis is in the movie I got a little worried. I always loved  his movies but I didn't enjoy as much the last movies he appeared in (Red, The Expendables, The Cold Light of Day, Fire with Fire – all those movies were bad). I'm happy to announce that Bruce Willis was great in Looper just like Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
If you like the deep time traveling paradox that Back to the future or the Terminator movies offered, you are probably going to like Looper.
