I, Frankenstein Review: The New Underworld

 I, Frankenstein Vs. Underworld

From a first glance on I, Frankenstein you would think to yourselves this looks very familiar. Who ever saw the Underworld movies will see it immediately the resemblance cannot be overlooked. And I’m not only talking about Bill Nighy and Kevin Grevioux who took part in I, Frankenstein and the Underworld movies. Even without both Nighy and Grevioux the resemblance to underworld is there, the dark gothic east European environment makes the I, Frankenstein film look exactly like Underworld, only with different main players.

The creators of I, Frankenstein used the same concept that was used in the Underworld movies. Replace the Vampires and the Lycans (Werewolves) with Gargoyles and Daemons. While in between those two forces you put someone or something that doesn’t fit neither side but can work with both.

A lot of people hated this film and I can understand why it generated some sort of a dislike. The script wasn’t the best thing you got to see in the last few years; therefore the dialogs were somehow empty of content. But not like all the pessimists out there I liked I, Frankenstein. Sure the fact that I think that the Underworld movies are the best Vampire Vs. Werewolves adaptation. I, Frankenstein being constructed in the same way does give the film a lot of positive points (at least in my mind). Eastern European Gothic scenery is something that is very cool to see and I, Frankenstein had a lot of it in the film. Aaron Eckhart is one of the most underrated actors out there, and one of those that I really like watching. Eckhart had an average performance in I, Frankenstein (there nothing much to work with) and still it was nice seeing him in a film like I, Frankenstein. Bill Nighy is always a pleasure to watch although he is getting a bit old and it really catches the eye at least in this film. Jai Courtney and Yvonne Strahovski appeared in the film and each played his / her part. Courtney seems to be like a rising star and this film was another springboard that should help his career, Yvonne didn’t have much to do in this film except look stunning like she always does but the part she had in the film she performed the best she could.

This is probably bias but the film had too many factors I really liked, maybe I’m in a minority but when I come to see a film first of all I want to enjoy myself. This I, Frankenstein adaptation worked for me, the film was very short (about 80 minutes) and had all the elements I needed to enjoy myself: a great lead, good action, great villain, a gothic scenery and a lot of pure fun so if you liked all the elements described in this review you should check it out. Even if you don’t like those things watch it anyway. I really struggle to understand why people didn’t enjoy this film, I had a blast.
