John Wick |
The guys, who took part coordinating most of the fight cartography on the matrix films, brought it to john wick. They reminded us why we loved the matrix so much. I'll admit that I expected a lot more from diverse action scenes but only after the film finished I realized that my disappointment surface because I saw most of the substantial fight sequences in the trailers that promoted the film.
One of the most important elements 90% of the films lack today is a good, simple story, john wick had it. Actually you can't go simpler than a former hit man that recently lost his wife, and when a mob prince decides to steal our heroes car bit the crap out of him and kill his dog (who was the last gift to our hero from his dead wife) john decides to revisit the dark world he was absent from in the last 5 years of his marriage.

Keanu Reeves kills a lot of bad dudes from close range
One of the better dynamics of the film was the relationship between Jon Wick and Viggo Tarasov the mob big boss. The man who was supposed to be the big bad walked on tip toes when he was forced to deal with his former employee. there was a mutual respect between the two characters and both were forced into a situation none of them wished to be in. unfortunately for both there was no other solution and whatever happened between was a fun ride to watch. Michael Nyqvist gave a great performance, he looked very genuine as a Russian mob boss and he spoke with somehow a believable Russian accent (in different to Alfie Allen who played his son).
One of the negative things about the film that can be said was the fact that the moment John Wick killed Alfie Allen's character the film lost its purpose and was going on fumes just to produce the inevitable final conflict between Reeves and Nyqvist in the end. Now when I think about it one more thing that bothered me was how poorly Adrianne Palicki (Ms. Perkins) was used throughout this film, her final end scene was definitely needed but it was so anticlimactic because I expected her to go out in a more interesting and excited way (another fight with Reeves or even with Dafoe, die in a fight or something like that).
Overall John Wick was a fun ride, if you like Action, Keanu Reeves and way too many headshots from close range. This film is for you.
