The first Matrix movie changed everything in the action genre of movies. It gave the viewers something that they never seen before. Matrix managed to blend inside martial arts like it was never seen before, high tech computer reality world that was simplified for everyone to understand and doomsday reality plot (that was borrowed from the terminator movies). With those 3 it’s really hard to go wrong. 

The sequels Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions didn’t deliver on the quality of the story but focused more on the special effects. After all the fight sequences in Matrix Reloaded  somehow compensated the average story while Matrix Revolutions didn’t had the epic martial arts fights but tried to go more to the real world and not the Matrix fairy land.
